I make art

Hello hello!! This semester has been mighty crazy. Way crazier than any other semester I have had so far. But I love it! I have no idea what I want to do as far as life as a fibers artist but it's super interesting to explore the medium. In class we've been learning a lot of different techniques that we could use in our work in the future.

I have some photos of my work that I thought I would go ahead and share

This first project was me just experimenting with color matching and gradations. I made different kite mobiles because I feel that kites keep popping up in my life and also I love the whimsical nature of them so I decided to make these:

I also placed little letters in each of them. I think I want to revisit this kite idea later on and include more little letters because I found that part very interesting and left a lot of room for experimenting.

I also learned something called shibori and it's a type of resist dying. You can wrap the fabric around a pole, stitch through it, or clamp it. The technique I used below is the clamping technique. I really liked this piece because it reminded me a lot of graffiti and I feel that I am drawn to that type of aesthetic in artwork.

More to come once I take photos of them! Thanks for visiting!!

Hello World

Hello Devoted Readers! I'm so sorry I have neglected this blog of mine for so long! Lots of things have happened! I am back from summer camp....we had some change of plans and ended up back at our old camp. We most likely won't be going back to a summer camp this coming up summer. I think that phase of our life is over and we're ready to move on to something different. Also I have started in my new major, Fibers! It's oh so amazing! I will be posting some of my work soon. And I now work for the fibers department through work study and I get to start a Fiber Department Blog! Isn't that exciting?!?! I get paid to make a blog. What exciting news haha!

In other news we really wanted to get Calvin a friend to help him break out of his shy little shell so we recently adopted another furry family member who we named Sproket. He is quite the handful. Full of energy and spunk to say the least. As seen by the photo he has quite the attitude! We love him, furry attitude and all!

And Calvin just seems to be getting cuter!  He's still skiddish and shy but he's starting to jump up and down and get excited about things like food!

And they also like to sleep a lot once they've calmed down. A-dor-a-ble!

In other news, I recently helped a friend photograph a wedding and LOVED it! I love photographing weddings! It's really fun and I feel that I will get more and more creative the more I do. I plan on helping her out with more weddings in the future and then eventually starting my own business, hopefully soon!! All I need is a camera. Sadly I had to part with my camera so now I'm hoping to save up for a camera and maybe Christmas money could help me reach my goal sooner *fingers crossed* You can check out the photos that I helped out with on my friend Jordan's site or you can friend her through her facebook fan page. If you're in our area you should book her for any event, wedding, engagement, senior photos, because she has great prices and does a really great job!

Another thing I'm really excited about is soon starting a website. I'm going to put my photo work and fibers work up there and all you lovely readers can stay in touch that way too.

All in all I'm just really excited about everything that is happening in life right now. The husband is doing really great too! He seems to be in some sort of art funk which is no good but we all go through it and I think he's picking himself up out of it as we speak so I'll make sure to keep you updated with his work too because a lot of what he does inspires me and I think that's really important :)

Thank you all for reading and I'll make sure to keep up with the blog and post interesting stuff every now and then haha.

Traveling

Sorry I haven't been able to update my blog. I've been traveling and now have settled in with my side of the family in the Greater Alabama region. I haven't been doing any crafts (lame) but I have been reading a lot. I found out the readers digest books are the best! There are 4 books in the book itself and each book is only about 200 pages. So there's not 400 pages of character development and too many adjectives to count. Just straight to the point. I've been reading all mysteries so it gets to what's going on then the search for the bad guy then the bad guy is found and it's oh so good!

Rob and I will be helping out with bible school next week at the church I grew up at. It's an Egyptian theme so we all have to dress up (which is not as exciting to Rob haha he's never been one for costumes). It should be fun.

We have about 2 weeks before we leave for camp and I'm getting more nervous. I'm also sad that I won't be rejoining the returners at my old camp but it will be for the best. The new camp seems really great and I haven't had a bad encounter with them. Every time I call them they are just so nice! So that's comforting.

Anyways that's a little run down of what's going on these days. My grandma and me are going to Hobby Lobby soon to get some patterns and material and hopefully I'll have something awesome to show all my readers soon! Thanks for stopping by!

Cruise weekend

Rob and I just got back from a wonderful cruise vacation to the Bahama's with friends and family. It was a lot of fun and very relaxing! I did bring my camera to capture the wonder that is the Bahamas and as I go to take my first photo a message popped up "No SD card"....seriously? I brought my stinkin camera but no SD card, I had left it in my computer. Super lame. So the whole time I just took a ton of mental pictures. So no updated blog with tons of fun pictures....fail.

Anyways now that we're back we've been hanging out with the family and tonight me, Rob, and Johnathan (our little nephew) will be cooking calzones! We're really excited about it. And I believe sometime next week (probably tuesday) we will be heading to good ol' Alabama to spend about a month with my side of the family. This summer has started off so great and will only get better I feel :) Although we have to stay on a strict budget until we get to Canada we will be just fine spending time with family and cooking and having a great time.

I must say that although we've struggled the past few months, I've never been happier. I love spending every day with my best friend (the hubby <3) and visiting his family and getting to visit my family. It's great to have a bigger family now that we're married. Makes for never a dull moment!!

Thanks so much for reading my blog. I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with it I'll try my best to update throughout our Alabama and Canada adventures!

Goodbye Kansas City (at least for now)

On May 15th we headed out of our apartment and said goodbye for 3 months to the lovely Kansas City. Although I occasionally enjoy the KC area I was so ready to be out of there, especially our apartment where our roommates will stay and we will no longer hop into the roommate bandwagon. Roommates are usually a bad idea. So we have learned our lesson and when we get back to the KC area we will be moving in to our own place! We are so excited!

Now we have made it safely to Florida and we've been hanging out with family and friends since we've been here. Rob's God daughter was baptized on Sunday and oh jeeze she is adorable! It was a great get together and there was tons of food and family and great times! I love spending time with Rob's family <3 Let's all take a moment to bask in her cuteness haha

She was the most relaxed baby I've ever seen
Proud Mom and dad

These pictures were all from her baptism. She had her own cake (as seen above) and is so very photogenic. It was great fun!

I knit her a cute sundress but of course I didn't take a picture of it haha so maybe I'll snap a picture of it soon. I still need to take a picture of all my knitwear. I'm so behind!

We're heading out on a cruise soon and we're so excited to take a quick little vacation. Then after that we're heading to visit my family then to camp. This summer is going to be exciting and it's definitely starting off with a bang! I love being in Florida around family and friends. It's a nice feeling that Kansas City just doesn't have.

I will soon start crafting, or at least posting pictures of things I've made so all of my lovely readers can see what I've been up to.

Thanks so much for stopping by :)

Finals week

Things have been mighty crazy around these parts for finals week and the end of semester show. Last week I had my final critiques with the whole department and I think they went well I'm just at the end of my rope this semester so it was hard to stay focused. Then on Friday everyone was setting up for the end of semester show which is kind of a big deal around these parts. We get quite a turn out of people who are interested in investing in students art and people who just love seeing the new eyes of the new artists. I really enjoy the end of semester show a lot. I submitted 2 pieces in the show and both got in. It was part of my latest series which I will explain a little later in this fun filled blog. Rob (my lovely husband) got 9 pieces in the show and 4 of them sold! How wonderful! He is so very very talented and I get excited for him when he does well with what he is doing (which is often because he works so hard on everything he does). Rob and I also submitted some of our work into a gallery space and had our first showing in Kansas City's first friday :) (if you're in the KC area our work is being displayed at Hadens lofts and the lofts are for rent and amazing in every way). This was quite exciting because I feel like things are starting to work out with our artwork and it's good to get our names out there.

Ok on to what I've been working on for the past few months. My series started out as documenting the passage of time in a certain place in my life that I spend time in. I would take photographs randomly throughout the day by remotely controlling my camera. I would then layer these photographs on top of one another to create movement and action. I didn't really like how they were turning out. They just weren't really conveying anything that I was going through at the time or anything that I wanted to translate to the audience.
So then I just started taking photographs of everything and everywhere I was to maybe figure out a better way to portray the passage of time in my life and maybe get some of my frustrations to come through. Thus started the beginning of a series I really am starting to like and know that I can expand on. I started taking photographs of all around me and joining them together to create an exploration of the spaces I find myself in and reconstructing it the way I feel is beautiful and cohesive.

I feel that this series just starting off for me. It's helping me to work through the idea of routine in my life and whether or not it's a good thing. These photographs are taken of places I find myself in all the time in this routine I've created for myself and once I take the photos I start to reconstruct them in a way that isn't conducive to the routine of which I see them. So this is quite an interesting progression for me. I've never progressed in a forward motion before especially in a way I enjoy. So hopefully this will continue and I'll share my discoveries with all of you :)

I have some photos of our end of semester show as well but they are at my home computer (I'm at school now) so I will update that soon.

Thank you very much for continuing to read my blog I really appreciate it :) Also I would love to hear what you think about my new series. I'm titling all the photographs individually with the 2 intersecting streets where they are located. Any feed back is good feed back :)

Also, Rob has a ton of pottery and if there is anyone in the KC area that wants some very reasonably priced pottery just leave a comment and let us know, if not it's all going into storage.

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Dear World,

I'm sorry I have not written a new blog in such a long time. I've been working hard in school because it's crit week and finals next week so it's been kind of crazy! I will be posting all the stuff I've been working on soon like my knitwear and my photos. I'm excited about everything and hope I can finish everything up in time.

I cannot explain how excited I am for this semester to be over. I've been dealing with a lot of stuff this semester so this summer break is just what I need. Sometimes it's just hard for me to understand some people. I've just come to realize that I should cherish my true friends and my husband and my family because it is so hard to find true friends and people who will stand by you and understand you in this world. I thank God everyday for the people in my life :)

Alright well I'm off to frame my work. Thanks so much for reading my blog and I will update soon with everything I've been working on this semester. Talk to you all soon!!

New Pots!!

The time has come for new pots from the ever so talented Roberto
I've only had a chance to take pictures of 2 pots but they are his favorite.
They are up for sale on our etsy shop if you're interested! He's been working so hard this semester and he has a ton of pots to show for it which will soon be up on our etsy and I'll make sure to let all my readers know as soon as I put new stuff up in our etsy shop. I've also been working on some headbands that I will put up on our etsy as well.

The first picture is of the front of one of Rob's pots. I'm not sure what he titled it but I've titled it the blue bird vase. And the other  photo is of his other vase. I really love the look of them because they don't have the clear glaze over the top of it so it's just the raw clay with the underglaze, china paint and luster. It's really doing something interesting like becoming more textured and resembles a wall which I believe is what he was going for. I'm really in love with these pieces. I am oh so jealous of his talent.

In other news my passage of time series is coming along quite nicely. I think I'm on to something.  I feel that art for me is kind of a performance. Most photographs I take are of me or Rob and it shows an insight into our lives. I really like that about my art because most of the time I'm not too open about my life and am just a jokster which is love. And my photography as well as more art I do in the future (hopefully) opens up a more vulnerable part to me that I don't have to speak about and hopefully it speaks for itself.

It was super rainy today so I was unable to take Mr. Calvin to the dog park so right now he's just sleeping right next to me like always. It's so wonderful to have a little companion that keeps me company when I'm at the apartment by myself. I'm glad we got him but I just wished he would not be so afraid of Rob. He will begin to love Rob I'm sure of it but it's just going to take time.

I believe that is all for today! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and taking your time our to read it. Don't forget to show our etsy some love! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

Rainy Rain

Today it was rainy
I usually love the rain and I am kind of enjoying it
but I've been on a role taking Calvin to the dog park daily
So no dog park today
I tried to walk him in the rain and apparently he has never experienced rain before because he was not having it. He just laid down on the ground staring at me in a stance that was going nowhere so we had to wait for the rain to subside so Mr. Spoiled could finally go outside haha.

This was the outcome of his rain experience. Tired, wet and a little angry haha. What a mess!

In other news school is coming to an end soon and I've been working on a series on the passage of time in my life. I think I'm on to something and I will share with all of you very soon! All my photos are just on the computer at school and I'm at home now so whenever I'm in school again I will try and post them :) I will also be posting some new ceramics on our etsy soon. This weekend is when I plan on getting a lot of photos for our etsy taken.

I've been reading a lot of blogs and I really love the ones that have questions at the end for the readers to answer if they want so I thought I'd jump on that boat haha.

What do you guys do on rainy days? Love them or hate them?

Thank you for reading my blog :)

PS- I have to let everyone know about my friend Cassi's blog. It's so wonderful! She is a bookbinding master and her entries are witty and fantastic! You should check it out at http://cassandraelton.blogspot.com/

My life as of now

I feel that my life is just going to school and waiting for it to end so I can take my doggy Calvin to the dog park. Seems a little bit lame I'm sure but I really enjoy being outside enjoying the beautiful spring weather and it's a good excuse to get out of the house. Plus Calvin is progressing so well! Today he really made a lot of progress. He usually just hangs out near me maybe venturing out every now and then to meet a dog half way then run right back to me. I have to pretend to ignore him so he won't just sit right next to me. I can tell he really loves the outdoors and is still trying to figure out the whole dog park thing. But today was a little different. At first he hung around me but then he ventured out to a place he usually doesn't and in the distance I could see him running...yeah that's right RUNNING around! He never runs...ever!! I don't think he really knows how to but man was he running. And when I tried to put his leash on to leave he would kind of gallop off and then look back at me. He really is getting the hang of it.

So in honor of Mr. Calvin I'll post some super cute dog park pictures. Enjoy!

My two favorite boys! Aren't they the cutest!! I really enjoy going to the dog park but it's always 10 times better when Rob goes too but he usually can't stay long because of school obligations.

That reminds me. School is almost out for the summer and I am really excited! I'm just in a funk that it's hard to get out of I feel. Maybe the summer will do me some good. Get the art juices flowing. I'm not sure if I've written about this before but Rob and I will be participating in being camp counselors this summer in a great camp in Canada. We are extremely excited  and nervous! Because we've been to the same camp for the past 2 years and now we're mixing it up by going to this different camp in a different country! What if people don't like us :( I'm sure we'll have a great time and the owner of the camp seems so great.

Thank you so much for reading my blog and I hope everyone had a lovely day :)

These names were randomly generated from random.org

Cassandra who wrote:

Congratulations to the 2 winners of the $25 gift certificates!!

And for those who were not the lucky winners don't you worry because we plan on having many more giveaways :)

We can't thank you all enough :)

In other news I haven't updated this blog in far too long and much has happened. In school I am working on a photo project that involves time lapsed moments in my life. I will post photos once the series is close to completed. In my knitting class I've completed a shrug (pictures to come) and I'm working on a strapless dress and a cardigan. Once I finish those items I will post pictures as well so you can see what I've been up to. In the hand knitting world I am working on a little dress that looks a little something like this for Rob's goddaughter. She will be having her christening soon. We haven't seen her yet and don't get to see her all that often so I just wanted to make her a little something. Plus little girls dresses are the cutest things ever! I can't wait to have kids to knit them a whole wardrobe!

In other news, Saturday April 17 was our 1 year wedding anniversary. It is so crazy how fast time flies! It was such a wonderful day because we just hung out with each other all day, we went to the zoo (<3), saw some movies, went out for dinner, and I received the most amazing earrings ever as well as a fantastic head piece (kind of like a hat and headband combined) and a song <3 I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have found someone who I can be myself with and talk about anything with and who is my best friend. I am pretty lucky <3 These are some pictures from our anniversary adventure!

First stop Chubbies for some delicious breakfast.

Before the adventure starts we have to grab a tastey (Diet Coke)

This guy was my favorite!

Caught this guy right in the middle of a yawn. Must be tiring being so cool.

Seems like we got there just in time for nap time. I don't remember what these guys are but they are quite adorable.

After all the animal watching and adventure it was time for a little sweet treat. Ice Cream = yum

Then it was time to relax in some place other than my disaster of an apartment.

I must admit that this was one of the best days I've had just for the fact that I was able to be with Rob all day. I love spending time with him and going on adventures. It was nice also to not have to worry about school for day. I'm so lucky to have him in my life <3

Thanks so much for reading my blog and supporting our etsy. Make sure to continue to check for updates on our etsy every now and then. We plan on putting more on there soon!

I hope everyone's weekend was wonderful and thanks for stopping by!

Day at the Dog Park

Today was such a beautiful day I just couldn't pass up spending some quality time with my doggy. Since my husband (Rob) was in school and couldn't enjoy it with us I took my camera as my trusty side kick.

On me and Calvin's (my cute little doggy) day of fun we first went for a walk then traveled to our local dog park. Last time I took him there he didn't know what to do with himself. He wasn't sure about what to do with all his freedom so he kind of just wandered slowly. But this time he was so excited and was very social. He made friends so quickly and it was great to see his progress. When we first got him, about 6 months ago, he was so scared and timid and just didn't know what to do. We adopted him from a shelter and they rescued him from a puppy mill so he hasn't had the greatest life. But we try to give him all that he's missed out on. So to the dog park we went. Look at how much fun he had!

We plan on spending much more time at the dog park and hopefully Rob can come too next time!

In other news we've updated our etsy with more pottery and some new knitted items! Check them out at www.Askrobske.etsy.com they're pretty exciting haha!!

Thanks everyone for reading my blog annnnnnd I know you're all excited about the giveaway haha. All the details are being worked out and it should be posted within the week. Make sure to keep an eye out for the giveaway blog.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

Another weekend

The weekend is almost over....sad face. Now it's back to school I go. I've been working on a knitted cape jacket type garment and it's almost finished. I'm really excited about it :) pictures will be posted once garment is complete! I've also been working on some photo ideas I've been coming up with. We shall see how they turn out. Once I find the winners out of the shoot I just had I'll post them for all my wonderful readers to check out :)

The giveaway is still in the works. I'm sorry it's taking so long to get it together. Just had some kiln trouble at the school. But don't you worry! We will have the giveaway up and a the details soon. It will be quite exciting!

As summer comes closer I get more excited about the adventures that are about to come. Rob and I just came up with the great idea of taking a road trip and I must say I am soooo excited about the idea. It will be great just him and me driving around, taking photos, and loving the company of each other. We will also be stopping by a few peoples places while on this road trip. I hope we can pull it off because it would be so amazing. We will also be bringing our trusty companion Calvin our little schnauzer, so cute!

I have so much to look forward to! After school ends in May we will be (hopefully) road tripping down to Florida for Rob's God daughter's christening, then a cruise with his family, then more time with our family and friends in Florida, then up the east coast to visit friends, and finally to Canada where we will be spending our summer as camp counselors. I am beyond excited about life!

Another big moment that will be happening soon is Rob and my 1 year wedding anniversary! I can't believe it's already been a year! He is so amazing to me and I could not have asked for a better person to spend the rest of my life with. It is so wonderful to be married to my best friend <3

Ok enough of the mushy stuff! More art and giveaway goodness to come!! I hope soon to add more pictures of projects I'm working on to keep up the excitement haha. Thanks so much for dropping by my blog!

Coming soon!!

Soon me and Rob (my super husband) will have a give away of some of our art to promote our new etsy shop and this blog! So get excited!! Rob will put up some of his ceramics and I will have some knitwear (hopefully) for the giveaway :) More details to come when we get everything up and running :)

In other news Rob and I are on spring break but we've been working really hard in our studios but yesterday was our spring break day :) It was amazing! We hung out in a really cute hippie town and bought some really affordable vintage clothing and ate some pita pit for dinner....super yummy! We were down in that area for the main event....to see COPELAND in concert. They were amazing last night! But sadly this will probably be the last show we see of them because this is there fairwell tour :( you should check out there tour dates because they are more than worth seeing. So amazing! And it was really great to get to see them with my husband :) Also the bands that opened for them were really good too so you should also check them out! There was Deas Vail, Person L (our favorite next to copeland), and I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business. All of these bands were amazing and definitely worth looking into :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend :) Thanks so much for stopping by!

Etsy Shop!

I have posted 2 new items on mine and my husband's etsy account so go check it out! I'm really excited about it! You can check out our etsy here. We do custom orders too so if you have something in mind we may be able to help you out :)

In other news in my collage class I've decided to make a slam book. I know it sounds really mean but I think it will look great. So the premise is while working at summer camp last summer a lot of people got fired and they have great stories attached to them. So I'm going to reenact the stories on paper in slam book form. I really enjoy playing with the ideas of the different judgments that occur in everyday life. I've done some photography projects on judgment in the past and it's always something that draws me in because as human nature we all judge one another. It's just a part of life but a lot of times I wish that my judgments weren't so negative. We all have our demons to concur and that's one of mine.

Spring break is coming up and that means I will be working extra hard in my knitting class because I want to knit some items for a photo shoot I want to do over spring break. Hopefully I can pull it off and if I do I will post the photos :)

On that note...thanks so much for reading and make sure to check out our etsy shop www.askrobske.etsy.com. We will be updating it frequently (hopefully) as we make more items.

Mid semester critique

Today was my mid semester critique. I would have to say it went really well! I posted these 2 photos from my dream series:

Everyone was very receptive and liked the idea. They gave me good feedback, like experiment more with different techniques of getting my idea across and maybe explore my dreams a little more and put that into the photos as well. So I will probably continue this series to see what I come up with.

Also big news....I am OFFICIALLY a fibers major now. I am BEYOND excited!! I can't wait to absorb everything that is related to fibers. I have some really great ideas that I hope I can implement in my fibers work. I still plan on using photography as well and I think I can really join the 2 to make some fantastic art.

Speaking of fibers I finally completed my first sweater! I'm so excited! It turned out great for my first sweater. It is kind of more like a dress which is what I wanted and now all I need is a brown belt to wear with it and it will be complete! I will post pictures soon. I really need to catch up on taking the photos of everything I've made. I've also made 2 scarves. I really like them. I will be selling them on etsy soon so keep a look out! Also I just bought some yarn and it should be delivered soon and I will start hand knitting some scarves. I have great ideas, great plans and I'm sure they will be up on my etsy account once I finish them.

In other news spring break is next week and I can't wait! Rob and I plan on making a ton of stuff for our etsy shop. He's been working very hard in ceramics and we will be posting some of the items for sale on etsy as well. This is all so exciting!

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you have a great week!

Dream Dream Dream

As I have promised you here is my Dream series. The tentative title is "Displacement of Dreams". I was working on this series and was inspired by the movie "Waking Life" You should all watch it, it is very good! It's very philosophical and discusses the reason for life and dreams and things of that nature. So my series was very loosely based on that film. The series can be read as a narrative. I hope you enjoy!

It seems that I am missing some images that I will add on tonight once I get to my house. I hope you enjoyed my series and I'm going to try to submit this to a gallery here in town. I also want to submit my "Judge me" series which I don't believe I have showed you. I will have to post those up here soon. It's off to the knitting room I go. Thanks so much for reading :)
